You are not required to make a police report in order to access a forensic examination for sexual assault. However, the sooner a report is made, the better it will be for any investigation.
In order to report a sexual assault, call your local law enforcement.

No. Forensic examiners are not in every hospital. If you are in California, you can find an interactive map of forensic teams at www.calsafe.net.

Examination teams are prohibited, by law, from charging a survivor of sexual assault for a forensic examination. The cost of the examination is paid by the law enforcement jurisdiction.
